Rough Day?
I came around the corner to find Scarlet lounging on the couch. It looks like she needed to take a break and get comfy. LOL!

Is this January?
I can't believe how much we have been able to be outside enjoying the weather. We have gone to the outside exhibits at the zoo and played outside so much more in this mild winter. We are suppose to get a big snow this weekend. I know Adeline will be excited to play in the snow and sled, even though we have really been taking advantage of the sunshine.

Scarlet's Birthday Party!
Scarlet is ONE!

Wow! I can't believe Scarlet is already one year old. This year just flew. Scarlet has quite the personality. She is such a sweetie and just loves to be close and cuddle. But, when she is on the move.. she is on the move! She started walking at 11 months and is now a speed walker. When she really gets to walking and feeling proud, she sticks her little chest out and puts her arms back- my mom calls her a proud little peacock.
She has 8 teeth (four top/four bottom). At her one year check she weighed 26 pounds (90%ile) and was 31 1/2 inches long (100%ile). She says "momma" and "dada" consistently with a lot of other babbles and consonants for other words as she points. She is quite the pointer, you certainly don't have to wonder what she wants- she will let you know. :)
Scarlet just adores Adeline, but has really started to exert her independence and isn't quite as willing to be bossed by her older sister. Something really cute is during story time at the library, Scarlet will sit next to Adeline on the rug and listen for a few minutes before she gets distracted by her surroundings. She really wants to do everything that Adeline is doing. Oh, .. do they ever get to giggling together- I don't know if there is any better sound in the world. Scarlet is a big fan of the cats, fish tank, and Layla. She loves tugging on Layla and often uses her as her personal climbing gym. Speaking of climbing- she is a climber, I am often amazed how she manages to get up and over and all around.
Scarlet has quite a bit of curl to her hair, I hope it lasts- I think she must get it from her Grandma Susan, so pretty! Scarlet needed her birthday milestone to decide it was time to sleep through the night. A week after her birthday, all of the the sudden (I say "all of the sudden" very loosely), she stopped waking up in the night. Do you hear the angels singing? I do! Happy 1st Birthday to our baby girl, Scarlet! She has certainly brought more joy to our lives than we could have ever imagined!

Introducing... A, B, C!
Santa brought Adeline two goldfish and a snail for Christmas. She named them "ABC". So, since there are three of them we will go with "A", "B", and "C". Adeline loves to feed them.. not just fish food. Yesterday, I caught her trying to put a bracelet in the tank. She immediately told me that "they like it." Scarlet loves looking at the fish and will point up to the tank when she wants to be lifted up to take a look.

2012 is Around the Corner
As we were taking down our Christmas decorations, I couldn't help but look back and think of how fast the year has flown by and all of the changes. Last year, as I was taking down our tree Adeline was not quite two and I was pregnant with Scarlet. So much can change in a year. I am so grateful of Andy being so supportive as we made the decision for me to take a leave as an Instructional Facilitator to pursue me being home with the girls full time. So, as I take down our decorations I can't help but to wonder what 2012 will bring.
This year we added an advent calendar of mittens for a countdown to Christmas with an activity hidden in each mitten.
One last look at our Christmas tree all decorated. I love that the majority of our ornaments have been gifts and they are all so special. I just love seeing the girls' first ornaments as well as Andy & I's first Christmas ornaments. Plus, it is so nice to have special ornaments for our beloved pets. A great way to remember.
Our Christmas tree is almost ready to go outside. I am sure a few little critters will have fun playing in the branches.
I must show a close-up picture of Scarlet's stocking that was sent to us from her Great Aunt Jacque. Such a keepsake and we are so thankful of the time she spent to make it so special. We look forward to many Christmas memories with this darling stocking. Thank you!

See you next year, Creek!
This morning when Adeline woke up to look for Creek (our Elf on a Shelf), I reminded her that he went home with Santa to the North Pole and will be back next year. She said, "Oh, that's sad Mommy. I miss Creek, that is so sad." Her post holiday blues were quickly averted with a request for a sugar cookie for breakfast. I think we are all in need of some holiday detoxing!
Baby's First Christmas!
